Best Kids Camp!
03.27.12 | No Comments »
We have been nominated as “Best Kids Camp” in KING5 and Evening Magazine’s “The Best of Northwest Escapes” contest. We won first place in 2010 and finished in second place in 2011. We need your help to get back on top and regain the title as “Best Kids Camp” in the Northwest!
After winning in 2010, we were recognized on Evening Magazine and the show followed up by shooting a segment about “The Blob” during the summer. This was great exposure for Firwood and they even re-aired the segment when we placed second last year.
If you can take a few minutes to vote, we would greatly appreciate it. We’d like to regain the title of “Best Kids Camp” and let everyone know that Firwood is the best camp in the Northwest!

Honey Hut Remodel
03.07.12 | 1 Comment »
We have been busy, this fall and winter, remodeling at camp to create two new areas. With the completion of the new Centerhouse dining facility in 2010, the Longhouse has undergone changes to become an indoor recreation lounge. The next step of that metamorphosis will take place this summer, as the Honey Hut will move into the previous kitchen area.
The Honey Hut will be able to expand in this space and we will be offering new items, such as fountain drinks, Slush Puppies, hot beverages and frozen treats. We will also be able to stock more merchandise in the Honey Hut, to better serve campers and parents.
Now you may be thinking to yourself, what will happen to the old Honey Hut? We have transformed that space into a new office for our staff. This office will serve as the central hub for communication between staff, campers and parents. We will be able to better serve parents when they come to pick up or drop off campers, as well as respond to camper needs.
Both of these projects couldn’t have been completed without the direction of the Firwood Maintenance Director, Doug Walker, and the help of our volunteer, Bob Lee. Thanks to you both!
Check out a short video and these photos of the remodeling, in the album below. Post your thoughts about what you think about the new Honey Hut!

Camp Firwood in the Snow
01.19.12 | 1 Comment »
This time of year is always interesting, with the crazy weather and unexpected snow events. With schools being closed and the kids at home, what better time to start thinking about summer and camp?! Check out this article called, “Preparing Your Child for Camp,” by Cheri Evans of the Christian Camp and Conference Association. The article contains tips on how to save for camp, setting up expectations for your camper, as well as what to pray for in anticipation of your child’s experience.
Evans says that, “As a parent, you may consider yourself ‘set apart’ from your child’s camp adventure because you aren’t in attendance. The success of the child’s experience, however, may very well depend upon your participation.” Make sure that you are part of your camper’s time at camp.
